Not inexplicably, today, January 20, 2021, on President Biden’s Inauguration day, I’m feeling a touch of optimism. The 45th President of The United States has been voted out of office, and the despicable entirety of his administration has dutifully, and somewhat surprisingly, vacated the Executive Branch.
I’ve stayed away from Facebook a lot over the past four years, but especially during the last six months.
I’m still not comfortable with Facebook — I fear that there will be years of growing pains while social media websites like this continue to serve as troll hangouts and strongholds of “fake news.” But, I’m going to try to see what I can get out of Facebook as 2021 begins.
For many recent years, I’ve found the hateful, indecent opinions of people on my Facebook “friends” list overwhelmingly disheartening. These few people are a good part of the reason I decided to abandon Facebook. Why I didn’t just choose to unfriend the assholes, I’m not sure.
Over the past decade, many of us have been learning how to integrate social media into our lives, and we were probably not as provident as we could have been when considering what our friends-list could mean. There have been different significances to different people to the friends-list, to getting “unfriended,” to blocking family-members, etc.
I’m no longer going to pretend that “tolerance” is some altruistic attribute that I must aim for, without discernment. Tolerance is a good thing in many many situations, but it’s not useful everywhere.
Suspend politeness…
I’m not taking any shit from you hate-filled hubris-monsters anymore. I no longer give a crap about hearing your opinion.
Resume politeness…
Un-friended.
